Comparison
Midwatch vs Watchflow
Watchflow is a solid heartbeat monitor with real cadence learning and a fast-shipping team. The structural difference is the install model: Watchflow asks you to install its community node on the instance and append a success node to every workflow you monitor. Midwatch never touches a workflow - it watches read-only over the n8n API. For your own instance, either model works. For an agency monitoring client-owned instances, the difference is the whole conversation.
| Capability | Midwatch | Watchflow |
|---|---|---|
| Install model | Zero install - read-only GET polling via the n8n API | Community node on the instance + a success node appended to each monitored workflow |
| Silent-stop detection | Learned cadence per workflow + manual per-workflow overrides in the console | Adaptive heartbeat cadence learning (weekday and time-of-day aware) |
| "Ran green, did nothing" detection | Automatic zombie detection from sampled execution item counts - no workflow edits | Possible if you wire custom payload properties (e.g. itemsProcessed) into each heartbeat node |
| Config drift detection | Hash-compared against blessed baselines, with a diff view | Not offered |
| Instance-down detection | Two-way dead-man switch - an external watcher and Midwatch watch each other | Heartbeats go quiet when the instance dies (the signal exists but is one-way) |
| Client-facing deliverables | Branded monthly ROI reports with public share links - shipped | Shareable status pages at $49/mo; white-label + custom domains at $99/mo |
| Alert channels | Email, SMS, Slack, Telegram, generic webhook | Email, Slack, Teams, webhook and more from $19/mo |
| Platforms | n8n (Make on the roadmap) | n8n, Make.com, Power Automate |
| Pricing | $197/mo design-partner access (Solo $99 / Agency $249 planned) | Free tier, then $19 / $49 / $99 per month |
If you run a handful of your own workflows and do not mind instrumenting them, Watchflow is honest value at $19. If you run other people's fleets - client instances you cannot casually install nodes into, with failures you need to prove you caught - that is the job Midwatch was built for, by an agency running it on its own client fleet first.
